A New Page on the GSQ Site! Green Graduates and Free Green Smoothie Recipes!

Thursday, February 25th, 2010 by stacey

by Stacey

Greetings fellow parsley lovers and kale kissers!  The first run of The Queen’s 3-Day Mini-Course finished yesterday, and folks are now spreading the news, inviting their friends, and signing up to be part of the live 10-Day Green Smoothie Challenge that The Queen is releasing for St. Patty’s Day on March 17th.  And while taking part in the program myself,  I’ve been happily sipping green glop and helping the Queen make sure that everything is running, well, smoooothly.

And I’m pleased to let you know about a new page that will be a great addition to The Green Smoothie Queen Website.  As more people complete the 3-Day Mini-Course Green Smoothie Practicum, we’ll be able to post their original green smoothie creations on our new Green Graduates page.  Over time, this will be a great place to come and salivate over free green smoothie recipes!

I foresee many YUMS to come!

Day 2 Green Smoothie Testimonials - You Like Me! You Really Like Me!!

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010 by stacey

I’m soooo looking forward to sending out diplomas to all the green graduates who complete our 3-Day Green Smoothie Mini-Course practicum when they share with us their own experiments and photos of their green smoothie creations.  Once they’re submitted, I’m going to create a new page on our website dedicated just to those… AND the great thing about it will be that we share more fantastic and free green smoothie recipes with the world!

And I happened to pop into the Emerald Lounge a few minutes ago, and I saw even more great posts!  I’m so flattered and pleased by the positive response so far!  And I hope all those bodies out there are humming with green energy and optimism!  I myself am on a high that I think involves a lot of gratitude… gratitude that I can spend my days doing work I love and that makes other people feel better and positive.  It’s WIN WIN!!

And though there are dozens of great posts to choose from, I hope you don’t mind if I select a couple from our Day 2 live program to share with you:

My name is Julie. This is my second Green Smoothie class! I LOVE all of the BEAUTIFUL art work on the Green Smoothie Queens/Raw Divas colorful web pages, E-letters and E-books! (Art work is very inspiring!) I find the Queens and Divas to be very enthusiastic, offering such wisdom/logic and encouragement! The Queens and Divas offer SO MUCH information - we simply cannot fail!!! This is a wonderful web site!

Looking forward to joining the group this time around and getting on the Green Smoothie bandwagon full time! I am a Vegan, but would like to drink more Green Smoothies, lose some pounds, and learn more about raw foods.

I made a big “Green” jug up yesterday morning and another jug last night — to be ready and waiting for me this morning!

I had a big glass for breakfast. Then my husband and I left on errands all morning. It was LATE afternoon when we returned home. As soon as we returned home, thinking it would not take long, my husband made a business call to try to straighten out some red tape! He was put on hold for 30 minutes and I know he was very, very hungry by this time! I quick poured him a glass of my Green Smoothie and he commented how refreshing the drink was! He asked for a second glass while he was on hold! …Looks like my husband will now be on the GREEN SMOOTHIE QUEEN’S program with me!

Julie

I’m so glad Julie that you find us as beautiful on the outside as we feel on the inside around here.  And I’m tickled you have your husband receptive to green smoothies!  It’s always just a matter of getting people to try them… really…

Hi, Stephanie here.

Our day 2 smoothie was:

  • mesclun, arugula, raddicchio lettuces (1 cup packed)
  • 2 stalks of celery
  • spinach (3/4 cup frozen, drained)
  • 1 carrot
  • pineapple (1/2 cup fresh)
  • strawberries (3/4 cup frozen we had picked this summer)
  • flax (ground, 3-4 Tbsp.)

I had this with the kids around our regular dinnertime, which was great because they were filled up enough that when my husband got home from work I was able to pour him our latest smoothie and my 7-year old was beaming with pride about the creation & couldn’t wait for his Dad to try it. The kids played while we had a chance to chat. Later that night, both boys wanted toast (whole grain) with some of the natural peanut butter we use.

It is hard to find great produce in the northeast during winter, which is why I use frozen veggies, at times, and why we stock up on the fruits we pick during summer and freeze those. Wish we had a Trader Joe’s closer! There are small, independent natural food stores ‘growing’ all around us, but the selection isn’t always great nor is the pricing.

I am enjoying this greatly and moving onto the 10-day challenge. I can see how this small change has the “ripple effect” the Queen speaks of; how it will overflow into other aspects of our life. I was able to reconnect with my husband when he got home. Some nights prior to our new lifestyle, I would’ve been flying around the kitchen, making sure the carnivores had their meat timed to be warm with the starchy side-dish. And, the vegetables would’ve been an afterthought, like, how quick can I throw together a salad before everything cools, or throw some veggie mix in the microwave in a plastic bag (cringe!) just to alleviate my own guilt and be able to say I served something green. (cringe, again!)

I have always liked my greens, but felt outnumbered with what the three guys in my life would expect as a meal and have struggled to get any one of them to like (and eat) the greens they need. The Smoothie Challenge has changed that dynamic and we all are looking much closer as what we eat and are paying attention to our bodies’ needs.

Thank you to all of you that work so hard at Green Smoothie Queen. What a concept! Really give someone something for free and I do believe you are the one that receives in the end. I will do my part to spread “the ripple effect” likewise. And, I agree with the other posts- your graphic design & artwork is inspiring on top of already being wonderful in of itself in concept.

Thanks once again green-team!

Stephanie

Stephanie, I’m grateful to maximize your green ripples by sharing your words and your recipe with our green smoothie community at large.  And you made so many important points.  Sometimes, there are so, so many of us flying around kitchens looking after others it takes a real effort to just step aside from the busy lives that we lead and just give some quiet attention to where we’re at with our lifestyle.  How often do we take the time to just put something in our mouth and savor it for a moment before we consume it?

And when families can decide together what kind of health they want for themselves and their future, it’s very empowering.  We have some great information coming up in the 10-Day Challenge about some great approaches to take with your family and children!  We want to build on the basics and provide more knowledge for you to make the best choices for your circumstances.

Of course, even though this is the last day of our live 3-Day Green Smoothie Mini-Course, the program, my Green Team, and I are all here to stay and we’ll continue to share recipes, testimonials, and answer questions on the blog.  So I hope you’ll spread the word!

Wrapping you in kale hugs and sending cilantro smooches,

Your Grateful Green Smoothie Queen

Green Smoothie Valentine - Be My Green Valentine!

Sunday, February 14th, 2010 by stacey

I’ve been thinking about what I wanted to get you all for Valentine’s Day.  It’s a gift I hope will fill your hearts with more joy, more life, and more enthusiasm.  It’s a gift you’ll definitely be able to share with those you love.  I’m going to keep you in anticipation until tomorrow… (I’m such a tease!) but come back tomorrow m’luv.  For today, enjoy yourself… enjoy the beauty of the day.

Remember, your greatest love is you…

- by Kate Nicholson

Valentine’s Day

Celebrate Love today!

Select your favourite fruits and greens and blend them up.  Add some cacao.  Add some maple syrup.  Add some vanilla.  Add whatever you fancy.

Indulge yourself!  Fill a lovely, elegant glass with your smoothie, put it on a tray with some flowers, and go right back to bed with the Sunday papers.

Later, when you’ve showered and massaged, and dressed in your favourite clothes (the ones that make you feel sexy and feminine), go out for a long walk.  Explore the city if that’s where you live.  Go to a gallery or museum.  Go to the cinema.  Sit in a stylish café with a cup of green tea and a good book.  People-watch.  Be amused by your people-watching.  We’re a funny old species.

If you live in the country, pull on your boots and go for a tramp across the fields.  Sit by a river. Try your hand at painting the scenery.  Who knows, you could surprise yourself with your hidden talent!  Anyway, the point is, do something just for you today.

Make yourself a sumptuous meal this evening.  Light some candles.  Think about inviting love into your life.  Tell yourself over and over how fabulous you are.  Before you go to bed tonight (and every night) say out loud, “I am beautiful, radiant and loving. I attract wonderful people and experiences into my life.”   After all, you gorgeous goddesses of green smoothies, if you don’t love and appreciate yourself, how can you expect anyone else to?

Valentine’s Day kisses to Kate Nicholson for her inspirational Valentine’s Day Week of love and pampering!  Be sure to leave her a comment and send her thanks and hugs!

Green Smoothie Valentine - Day 6 - True Love

Saturday, February 13th, 2010 by stacey

See…  I think they have the colours for Valentine’s Day a little off if you ask me.  If Valentine’s Day has become a day associated with affairs of the heart, then, and I just * may * be a little biased, but I think  we should be giving each other beautiful gifts of GREEN.  Kate is going to tell you a little bit about the heart chakra today, but I just can’t resist letting you know that the heart chakra is associated with my most favourite, luscious  colour.  Take a moment to feed the hearts of others and your own Sunshine.  Enjoy this gift with love…

- by Kate Nicholson

In yoga, the heart chakra is associated with unconditional love, peace, forgiveness, compassion, and acceptance. According to www.spiritual.com.au it is “essential to affection, warmth, nurturing, friendship and familiarity…it is the seat of your ability to feel joy, unity, laughter and especially love - the very highest power in your life. It expands your capacity to be generous, sensitive, forgiving, and tolerant.” Today, treat yourself to a long yoga session, focusing on opening the heart chakra. Feel the love radiating from you. Give someone a gift today - anything from the coins in your purse to the homeless guy on the street corner, to a compliment to a co-worker. In return, it will give you the gift of happiness - and the beautiful benefits of that are visible for all to see.

And remember that your first true love is YOU.  So today, give yourself a little gift too.  Buy yourself a big bunch of flowers. Try to find some beautifully scented ones. Tidy the house. Dust, hoover and polish, then spend the evening relaxing with some soothing music. Treat your feet to a soak in a bowl of warm water with a handful of rosemary leaves added. Afterwards, massage your feet thoroughly; each toe and every inch of skin on each foot and ankle - think of all those reflexology points that you’re gently comforting and soothing, and of the effect that will have on the rest of your body - before putting on some soft cotton socks and lying back to enjoy the oasis of tranquillity you have created today by giving to others and to yourself.

Day 6

Give your love freely…

The True Love Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • Punnet of raspberries
  • large handful of mixed lettuce leaves
  • 1 tsp bee pollen
  • 1 tsp raw honey

Directions:

Blend with water and buzz with true energy all day.

Green Smoothie Valentine - Day 5 - Light of My Life Smoothie

Friday, February 12th, 2010 by stacey

I’m starting to think that every week should be a countdown to Valentine’s Day.  Pampering, beauty, relaxation…

And healthy, yummy green smoothies…

This is my kinda holiday…

- by Kate Nicholson

Treat yourself to a candlelit bubble bath tonight. Take a glass of sparkling water with a slice of lemon into the bath with you. Slap on a face mask. I have a friend who swears by honey. She simply rubs a spoonful of the stuff over her face, avoiding the eyes and mouth areas, leaves for a short while, and then rinses off. She has a radiant, even complexion. Add a couple of cucumber slices over your eyes, and you’ll look good enough to eat!

Day 5

From a sunbeam to the bounce in your step…

Light of my Life Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 2 - 3 peaches
  • chunk of cucumber, peeled if not organic
  • 1 stick of celery

Directions:

Blend with water.  Enjoy a peachy day!

Green Smoothie Valentine - Day 4 - Affairs of the Heart

Thursday, February 11th, 2010 by stacey

I want something for you, for all of you.  And for me.  I want you to know how tired you were, how confused you were, how sick and tired you were of being sick and tired.  I want you to raise a glass of greens each day and take your health back into your own hands.  And then you’ll know the difference.  That’s what I dream of…

- by  Kate Nicholson

Well, I hope you revelled in your massage and shower yesterday.  Speaking of water, drink plenty of it to plump up your skin and keep your brain functioning optimally.  Dehydration causes tiredness and low mood.

And dream today.  Dream, dream, dream…  Spend some time thinking about your ideal life.  Grab a pen and notebook and jot down some ideas.  Cut out some pictures from magazines to inspire you.  As Lao Tzu, the godfather of Taoism, said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”  So what can you do to begin to make your dreams come true?  Take that first step now!  Don’t put it off any longer.

Day 4.

Put your heart into your dreams…

Affairs of the Heart Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • coconut water - to taste
  • 1 mango peeled and sliced from the pit
  • 2 - 3 handfuls of spinach

Directions:

Blend and enjoy blissfully.  Then take a step to follow the path of your heart.

Green Smoothie Valentine - Day 3 - The Dawn of Love

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010 by stacey

I’d love to write you something smart and sassy, but I’m too busy taking Kate’s advice and looking in the back of my fridge for that elusive bottle of almond oil.

I know it’s in here somewhere!

- by Kate Nicholson

Today’s pampering involves touch: A self-massage with scented oils. Angela Joyce on www.ehow.com does an excellent series of videos on self massage.  Make your own massage lotion with sweet almond oil or olive oil as a base and add a few drops of your favourite essential oils. (Check with a qualified aromatherapist as to which are safe to use if pregnant or breastfeeding). Close your eyes and enjoy a sensuous experience. You have beautiful skin, and all the smoothies you drink are making it even softer and suppler!

Afterwards, when you’ve showered and put on a fluffy dressing gown, sort out your underwear drawer. Throw out those old grey, stretchy elastic items, sistah! Time to treat yourself to some fabulous sexy new sets! Even if no one else sees them just yet, you’ll know just how delicious and desirable you look under those work clothes!

Day 3.

For new beginnings…

The Dawn of Love Smoothie

Instructions:

  • Punnet of cherries
  • Head of mild lettuce
  • 1 tsp spirulina (optional)

Directions:

Blend with water to desired consistency.  Feel your heart peek over the horizon.

Green Smoothie Valentine - Day 2 - The Bewitching Potion

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 by stacey

How does the saying go?  Cleanliness is next to goddess-liness?  With loving tips to care for the beauty that is yours outside and in, we continue to pamper you on your green way to Valentine’s Day.

- by Kate Nicholson

Start the day with a scrub in the shower. Mix a handful of salt with some sweet almond oil and use in circular motions over the body to exfoliate and leave your skin glowing and smooth. (Don’t use on your face though - too harsh). You can add a couple of drops of lavender (skin rejuvenating) or rose oil for extra lusciousness. (Rose is reputed to attract love).

Smile at yourself in the mirror before you leave the bathroom and blow yourself a kiss! You look fabulous!

Walk tall and smile at everyone you meet today.

Day 2.

Give yourself the glow of health and energy…

The Bewitching Potion

Ingredients:

  • Kale, stripped from stem
  • Punnet of blueberries (that’s a charming word for “wee basket” in case you were wondering)
  • 1 tsp cacao powder

Directions:

Blend with water to desired consistency.  Feel yourself radiating health and happiness and others are going to notice!

Fortunate Friday

Friday, February 5th, 2010 by stacey

- by Stacey Terry

Well, I’ve had the luck of housesitting in someone else’s lovely home for the last week.  And I’ve taken full advantage… dips in the hottub, moments enjoying winter’s quiet beauty and silence outside the city, and all the space a gal could ever need to leave her stuff lying around.

Even more exciting, I was able to upgrade from my trust Oscar to a high-powered blender… It’s going to be soooo hard to go back home.  Having access to a REAL machine has meant I’ve been on a total green smoothie rampage.  I’ve been just throwing stuff together and watching it pulpify in seconds. Why make meals when that’s so much fun?

And since this morning’s experiments turned out REALLY well, I thought I’d take a moment to share the recipe.  I’m out of my usual greens (and didn’t want to have to drive anywhere to get more), so I foraged in the fridge and figured I’d use up the following:

Stacey’s Strawberry Mint Shake

Ingredients:

  • 1 - 2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 3 sprigs of mint (leaves and stems)*
  • 4 big stalks of celery, leaves and all
  • 1 very ripe banana
  • wee bit of water to get things going

Directions:

Put in your blender and momentarily you’re on your way to a fortunate and refreshing delight.  *Oh yeah… the mint… I had some leftover from a recipe that I tried that DIDN’T work… eep.

I have to give up my temporary palace and return to the city tomorrow, but I thank my lucky smoothies that it’s been such a great opportunity to relax and work in peace.

Have a fortunate and peaceful weekend yourselves!
