add more leafy greens and fly!I am flying!!!!

My inbox is FULL!!!!!  And that’s a FABULOUS thing as it says to me that more and more people are interacting with green smoothies and good fun!  And thank you to everyone who is writing in to me and joining to support me for the next 21-Day Green Smoothie Detox.

Every few minutes I feel more excitement building and see good things happening.  When I returned to Diva-land on Monday, I was thrilled when Tera announced that we met our BiG objective of raising $10 000 for the Lower East Side Girls Club!  Today will be the final day that we’ll be collecting last minute donations, but Tera has generously decided to make all the BiG calls available until next year’s International Green Smoothie Day.

Wait until you see ALL the incredible stories, challenges, recipes, and green smoothie events people shared for the BiG contests!!! (more…)

BiG Stories - Going Green Waaaay Up North

Friday, August 27th, 2010 by stacey

The stories and comments we’ve had coming in for our BiG Believe in Green challenge are enough to make you jump for choy.  Bobbi sent in a story that we’ll be entering into our BiG story contest, and we thought we’d share it with you now.  We’re still working towards and getting ever closer to our $10 000 goal for The Girls’ Club, but we haven’t quite got there yet.  If you sign up today  you can still get in on all the calls, downloads, recipes, and the chance to win a $400 Blendtec blender!

One of the rewarding results is that many are realizing how possible, how doable it is to make changes and a difference.  Not even location is an excuse as you’ll find out from Bobbi who lives almost 800 km and 10 hours north of the city of Winnipeg where I live in the province of Manitoba (hehe… and even with all that distance, we STILL figured out we know at least one person in common… like Tera says, “we really are all connected!”).  But I’ll let Bobbi tell you about how *she* is finding ways to go green up north and what amazing changes green smoothies have made!

Dear Tera,

My name is Bobbi and I live in Northern Manitoba on a beautiful lake, one hour from Thompson.  I have a husband and three children - Ian (7), Aaron (4), and Rya (2).  I am a school teacher and I will be teaching music this coming year.  I’ve been off since the end of June with them and I have about 2 and 1/2 weeks left, till school starts.  I’ve really enjoyed this BiG Green Smoothie challenge.   (more…)

Stacey Terry - Winnipeg Folk Fest 2010

Where do I start today?

I suppose by putting down the soggy tissue I’m holding and adding it to the pile of other soggy tissues that seem to have accumulated since listening to Tera’s BiG call with Julia Butterfly Hill, our BiG speaker who dedicated two years of her life to protecting the Redwoods she loves.

Does it happen to you?

Do you ever get inspired so much that you commit to doing something you’re not sure you can do?  Something so BiG, you may need help? (more…)

BiG Changes: Adding Choice, Love & Green Smoothies

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010 by stacey

I love Believe in GreenOur BiG event is underway and we’re still working hard to reach out and make our goal of raising $10 000 for The Lower East Side Girls Club.  We’ve decided to keep the event open until we reach that goal!  We’re determined that at least 100 girls from the Lower East Side will have a choice this year… that 100 girls will be able to learn about smoothies, eco-living,  and self-empowerment rather than joining many who find themselves stuck in the traps of junk food, poverty, and self-defeat.

We’re going to need help to make that difference in those lives.  All it takes is $10. And we know we can.  We already KNOW what a difference just adding green smoothies for 10 days can make.  It’s not about being perfect… it’s about doing things differently and with more goodness.  We’d love to share a letter that came to us recently from a 10-Day green smoothie challenger.  Find out the difference that greens made for Marie-Eve! healthy fast food

I don’t know about you but I love the Summer. It’s a time to relax & enjoy yourself, but it can also be a time of great stress especially when you find yourself in unexpected ‘food quandaries’. Sometimes when we are busy we can get so wrapped up in the minutia of each detail of what must be done that we forget the most obvious things - what to eat!

Over the last week I have had to deal with this same problem. I was unexpectedly away from home and didn’t have time to prepare my normal healthy meals. When this happens what’s a girl (or boy) to do? Here are three tips and some great food ideas to keep you from going to the drive through this summer. (more…)

6 Essential Steps to Beauty, Peace & Vitality

6 steps for beauty and vitality

“Your body is the harp of your soul. It is yours to bring forth sweet music or confused sounds.” - Kahlil Gibran

As a woman it is instinctual to want to feel beautiful, desired and magnificent. Over thousands of years of evolution and change women have remained the constant to the ebb and flow of life. Feminine energy remains the yin to the masculine yang balancing the abrasive edge of the ‘man’s world’ with intelligence, beauty, grace and creativity.

With the day to day stresses of the modern woman’s life it is no wonder women are feeling disempowered, unfulfilled or lacking when it comes time to evaluate their health, happiness and overall vitality. We are running the show, wearing multiple hats and overextending ourselves by staying late at the office, volunteering or saying yes, yes and again yes to obligations inevitably to be accepted and appreciated. This overextension of our time and energy creates stress and often dis-ease in the form of headaches, digestive issues, PMS and complications with our menstrual cycles, adrenal fatigue and even emotional eating and bingeing.

We all know nutrition plays a key role in the way we look and feel (but what about our internal state?) Why do we sabotage our opportunity for vibrant, fabulous skin, hair and bodies on a regular basis? (more…)

Love Affair with a CSA…

Reasons to Love CSA

Did you know New Jersey is called ‘The Garden State’?

People who are only familiar with the stereotypes of big hair, tanning and Sopranos lifestyles can’t believe it when they travel through our beautiful state and see miles and miles of beautiful and lush farmland. Some of my best memories as a kid were picking berries or peaches with the juice dribbling down my chin or the familiar yummy taste of sweet corn at summer dinnertime.

Seeing the lazy sheep in the fields always got me dreaming of having my own one day - that particular memory makes my husband very nervous, mostly I think in anxiety that I will ask him to move with me to a farm in the middle of nowhere! (He is not the type to live outside the comfortable pleasures of his favorite Italian deli two blocks away).

There is nothing like fresh-from-the-garden produce. Joining my local CSA has taught me (more…)

Get Outside into Summer!

get outside this summer

I have a dear friend whom I meet with every week, normally for coffee at one of our favorite haunts. We talk about traveling, exploring our own backyard, relationships and creativity.

I look forward to this time.

I’ve noticed recently that most of my gatherings with friends are around happy hours, coffee dates and alcohol. As I’ve been working on more holistic health and deeper, more authentic community I’ve made a commitment to make my get togethers less food oriented, and more focused on activity. (more…)

Fruity Treasure Pops: How to Make Healthy Fruit Popsicles

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010 by stacey

healthy fruit popsiclesBelieve it or not, it’s hot and sunny (finally!) as I type this today in beautiful Winnipeg, Manitoba!  Normally, my city has a reputation for ice and snow (and the occasional flood here and there), so with thoughts of winter always lurking, perhaps it’s fitting that I’m coming to you today with a frozen raw food treat!

In anticipation of the 7-Day Summer Slurping Sensation, I’ve been challenging myself to come up with some new ways to enjoy my fruits and leafy greens together.  A few rainy days ago, I whipped up a little recipe for fruit popsicles, and it’s finally nice enough today to enjoy them.  So you’ll have to forgive the somewhat sticky, juicey fingers that are bringing you today’s summer healthy idea because I’ve been enjoying the fruits, quite literally, of my icy labours!

As a kid, I think I survived my summers on freezies… You remember… those little plastic frozen rods of water, sugar, and dye?   Heheh… the more psychedelic and unnatural the colour, the more I wanted to try it.

Well… thankfully, my freezie days eventually came to an end, but if anything, I think summers only get hotter here in Manitoba, so it would  be really nice to have a raw food frozen treat on the blistering, scorching days when -40 degrees Celsius doesn’t seem like such a bad thing after all.

Thankfully, I now have the knowledge and the creativity to make that happen!  If you’re content to let Mr. Freezie remain in whatever igloo he came from indefinitely, then I invite you to try one of my fruity treasure pops!

- Alejandra Hernando is an inspiring Green Smoothie Challenge participant and a Ripple Maker Award winner.  You can read how she spread the word about raw food and improved the lives and diets of children here.  And we’re delighted that she wrote to us to share how she’s been doing (her experience led her to create her own website in Mexico!!), and we’re thrilled to feature Come Frutas y Verduras (Eat Fruits and Veggies) today.  We hope you’ll share it with someone you know!  And stay tuned for our next Ripple Maker Award and free Blendtec blender contest coming up for International Green Smoothie Day! How will you change the world in your own green way?

Hi Tera,

It´s been a year since the ripple maker award and I just wanted to tell you how things are going around here.

I needed to tell you that being a ripple maker has been wonderful! It makes me feel alive and my daughter is so happy. She tells me that she was meant to do what we are doing. It gives me goosebumps but in a good way. She is so connected with her source in a way that amazes me and I know that our lifestyle helps her be in touch with herself. I know that being a raw vegan helps me be more in touch with my body, my mind and my soul. (more…)
