Stacey Terry - Winnipeg Folk Fest 2010

Where do I start today?

I suppose by putting down the soggy tissue I’m holding and adding it to the pile of other soggy tissues that seem to have accumulated since listening to Tera’s BiG call with Julia Butterfly Hill, our BiG speaker who dedicated two years of her life to protecting the Redwoods she loves.

Does it happen to you?

Do you ever get inspired so much that you commit to doing something you’re not sure you can do?  Something so BiG, you may need help? (more…)

PCOS Healing through Whole Foods in the 21 Day Green Smoothie Detox

Monday, July 5th, 2010 by stacey

I have suffered from PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome) for several years and initially treated my symptoms with medication.  I quickly found out that  medication was not the answer to alleviate my symptoms.  The side effects were horrific.

PCOS is an endocrine disorder characterized by hirsutism (excessive hair growth on face, chest, toes, back, etc), male-pattern baldness, horomone imbalance, excessive weight gain, high level of male androgens, carb cravings, acne, infertility, mood swings, and irregular cycles to name a few.  I also have a gluten allergy, irritable bowel, low stomach acid and cannot digest foods properly to get the proper nourishment from my foods.  Due to this, I have several food allergies.

I try to detox several times a year because this condition (more…)

21-Day green smoothie detox

Tonight I’m watching the stars come out over the river…

I just finished putting away bags of fresh produce to incorporate more fruit and leafy greens into my diet over the next few days before starting the 21 Day Green Smoothie Detox. I’m new to green smoothies, but after reading about the benefits of clearer skin, more energy and general detoxing, I can’t wait to start! I’m looking forward to gaining an introduction to green smoothies as the program kicks off on the fifth of July.

Last night I played on the swings at a favorite childhood playground with an old friend, discussing the need for greater health in our lives. Both of us have struggled with health problems that we tend to blame for our lack of health. (more…)

Which Wolf Will You Feed?

Friday, June 18th, 2010 by stacey

- by Kate Nicholson

I heard a great story the other day - the Americans among you are probably familiar with it, but it was new to a Brit like me…

An old Indian Grandfather tells his grandson about a battle that’s going on inside him between two wolves.

One wolf is greedy, frightened, and angry and the other is loving, peaceful and kind.

The grandson asks, “Which one will win?”

Grandfather replies, “The one I feed.” (more…)

health failure

Tracy is one of our 21-Day Green Smoothie Detox program participants.  She, like many of you, is constantly dealing with the health concerns of her family.  She agreed to share her journey with us with the hope it will also be of help to someone else!

Tracy reached that point that many of us do.  She gave up.  Find out what got her back on her journey and discovering success again!  Her story is a great reminder of the gentle steps and support we all need to seek out.

Welcome to my Australian family! I have three beautiful children and a gorgeous husband. We decided to have our children close together (15 months apart) so that they could grow and play well together. Some people are very quick to say “You were keen,” or “They are close.”  Yes, there have been some crazy times, but it has been well worth it. (more…)

Moms and Daughters - Getting Green Together!

mom and daughter - detox and green smoothies

May is here and we’ll be honouring Moms this month in addition to our spring cleaning and detox programs.  So we were *thrilled* when two of our green smoothie participants, a super mom and daughter team, wrote to us about their recent efforts to support one another with getting green and eating well!  In fact, they even started their own blog, Royal Green, so that they could keep one another motivated and inspired!  In honour of Mother’s day and the beauty of family, we’re delighted to introduce them and to share some of their posts for you to enjoy!

- by Mimi Freeman and Rachel Calkins

Thank you for visiting Royal Green, A Family Affair. We are a fun loving, mind-body-spirit conscious mother-daughter duo from Santa Cruz, California. We have mostly led a healthy lifestyle filled with exercise and fresh foods. However, in the last few years, we have been prone to stray from our healthy habits. We acknowledge that we have much to learn about the ways of healthy living and are excited to do so!

Just before WISH, Rachel my lovely 24-year-old, now residing in Portland, Oregon, contacted me (I recently moved to France) to join her in a journey neither expected to be so fulfilling and life-changing. (more…)

NEW Green Smoothie Program: The 21-Day Green Smoothie Detox!

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 by stacey

Spring!  It’s a time to get out!  To burst into summer with sparkles of energy!  To feel a surge of life coursing through your veins that makes you dance and delight in the joy of each day!

Or… maybe not so much.

Maybe you’re just lucky to keep both eyes open at the same time.  Maybe the bags under your eyes and the heaviness in your limbs attests that your meal preparations lately may have more to do with opening bags of chips and driving up to windows.  You want a change. Maybe you just need a VACATION.

Can’t manage the time or the cost?  heheh… what if you just made travel arrangements for just one organ?  I never said that ALL of you had to go.  ;-) You can send your liver on a 21-Day green smoothie detox trip to the tropics!

As always, we’re sure to have a lot of fun getting healthy together!  There’s a complete green raw food menu planner, a detoxification journal, and daily e-mails from moi! AND you’ll have opportunities to participate in LIVE teleseminar calls where you can have your questions answered.  Oh… and did I mention there’ll be green smoothies!?  Green smoothies, green juices, green salads, and more… even some cooked food options for those of you who are maybe more interested in a ‘close to home’ vacation experience.

The program is being offered for a special spring sale price for its first time through!  So if you sign up by Saturday, April 10th, you’ll be able to take advantage of the sale price!

April’s the perfect time my friends… you’ll be ready for summer and full of energy to enjoy your holidays!!

Diving into Detoxing the Easy Way!

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 by stacey

- by Caitlyn Furness

Some of us are diving into the 6-week detox this week.  This means we are up to our ears in green juices and green smoothies.  Last week was a preparatory week for the detox, and this week is technically week one of the GI (gastro-intestinal) repair phase, which is supposed to last for two weeks.  We’re supposed to drink up to 2 quarts of the green stuff a day, either green juices or green smoothies.  I’m there now, but I had to work my way up to that over the last six months!  When I first started drinking  these, green juices especially, I had to add a lot of apple juice and lemon juice to it, but now, I can do more green juice and less fruit.  In fact, now I can munch dandelion greens straight and I even like them that way!  Don’t worry though, I still have a problem with wheat grass juice!  But thankfully, my favourite green detox drinks are simple to make.

In fact, my point of writing this post is to show how easy it is to make up a smoothie, even when you’re on the go.  Last week, a family member was in the hospital, and I was running back and forth because of it.  I never knew when I’d have to pick up and go in a hurry.  Smoothies and salads were my lifesavers!  I’d make a couple smoothies, put them in my stainless steel bottles (which happen to be bright pink!), and away I’d go with no worries about having food in a hostile hospital environment with take-out food everywhere!

Here’s one of the recipes I was carting around in my pink bottles:

Berry Blaster Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 2 cups frozen blueberries
  • 4 ribs celery
  • 2 giant handfuls kale
  • Small handful dandelion greens
  • 1 T chia seeds
  • 1 T coconut oil

Directions:

Put all the ingredients into your blender and blend (start with the softer ones first if you have a regular blender)!  You might have to do this in batches if you don’t have a high-speed blender.  Of course, you can use fresh bananas and blueberries in place of the frozen, but it’s winter, and this is what I have on hand now.

Enjoy!

What You Give Away Comes Back To You

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009 by stacey

I was just about stampeded a few moments ago when The Green Smoothie Queen came rushing into the room, eyes beaming, and frantically waving a page at me.  “Having a dull moment are we?”  I asked.

I believe I was able to discern “act of kindness” and “true spirit of giving” in the rush of grinning animated babble with which she answered me.  Oh, and I think she was happy!

Apparently, the Queen received an e-mail that had delighted her.  She told me there’d been a little impromptu gift exchange.  One little decision on the Queen’s part to get into the Christmas spirit had inspired a similar act of kindness from one of our program participants.  I could see our gorgeous gal was genuinely touched!

I’m all for spreading giddiness, so I am delighted to share with you the poetic gift that the Queen received today, and I hope it brings a similar smile to your lovely faces!

Green Smoothie Revival: Day One: Get Your Green On!

Monday, May 11th, 2009 by admin

I admit that my day is off to a spectacular start. The sun has finally broken through after a week of clouds and rain and I dare say, my lovelies, that good things are brewing in the world. It’s probably no coincidence that the sun is shining down on us as we kick off a 3-Day Green Smoothie Revival.

Since I’ve been grooving along as part of the 90-Day Detox and am also enrolled in the 6-Week Detox with Dr. Ritamarie, I will be skipping the fiber on this round of green smoothies and going for a juicier adventure. Those of you who follow the Raw Diva blog know that I’m also trying to get rid of a cyst that developed on the back of my leg and I think this is just the thing to do it!

Today is Day One! The day your commitment feels solid. You’re ready and on track. You can do this good thing and you WANT to do it for yourself. Stay focused and think Green Thoughts and you’ll get through this day victorious.

Remember to eat enough, so you don’t find yourself giving into temptation at the end of the day.

Remember to get to bed at a good time. Fatique is a major reason for late night eating. Don’t get caught in the late night snack trap! If you’re going to do this 3-day adventure with us, give yourself the best chance possible of feeling fantastic. Go for some exercise, too! Break a sweat and release some of those toxins that have been dragging you down!

And hold fast to your commitment to yourself for the next three days NO MATTER what comes up. BEND, but don’t break your desire and need to prioritize your health right now.

Tonight I was invited out for dinner.

I’m sure you can imagine my predicament. Invited out for dinner on the first day of my Green Smoothie/Juice Revival?!!

Guess what I did? C’mon! Guess!!!

I ACCEPTED!

angela elliottYup! And I suggested bringing over a whole slew of fresh fruits and vegetables so that we can all make juice together. Now isn’t that a great idea? Last night we had a teleseminar scheduled with Angela Elliott of www.she-zencuisine.com. It was to discuss some of the tips and tricks for raw foodists who are living in cooked food families. There’s a part of me that really dislikes these labels, because it’s really about prioritizing the foods that build and support us rather than the foods that cause us to feel unwell. Not all “raw” food is good for you and not all “cooked” food is “bad”–just wanted to make that clear.

There’s no question that it can be tough when we make an unusually disciplined commitment to health and find ourselves surrounded by other people who do not share or necessarily understand these commitments. I know I’m not the only one guilty of compromising my intentions in the name of social graces. I know I’m not the only one who has failed at achieving my goals for myself because I “gave in” to the environment around me.

But listening to Angela last night I was reminded of the importance of clarity in our decisions. She hasn’t dipped a finger in cooked food since the day she decided to embark on the raw food path. It’s not a burden for her. It’s not a challenge or a complication. It’s a PLEASURE. She LOOOVEs the way she lives and eats and even though she cooks for her family every day, she’s inspired to pursue her goals for health without compromise.

That’s inspirational.

Our social situations cannot be an excuse for us to hold back on prioritizing our health. We get caught in a trap of justifications and excuses about “why it’s so hard” but the bottom line is there needs to be a DECISION to do what you need and want to do for yourself. When you have that, everything else can and will fall in place effortlessly.

DECIDE today that you’re going to get through this day of Green Smoothies.

DECIDE that you want to feel better than you’ve ever felt before and that you DO deserve to feel that way.

DECIDE that you matter and that your needs are worth prioritizing over certain social graces.

There are ways to get around sticky situations, but when you inherently have an apologetic attitude about what you’re doing–if you feel from the start that you’re an inconvenience or a burden, if you’re frustrated about the “toxic choices” of others then you’re busy toxifying yourself with negative emotions rather than embracing the image of where you want to be and moving towards that.

So today is your day! Buck up and smile at the world! Be the bearer of good tidings, bright colors and health!

Get your green on!

Love and hugs,

Tera
