Green Smoothie Recipes from The Emerald Lounge

Friday, June 4th, 2010 by stacey

One of the wonderful benefits about taking part in a Green Smoothie Challenge, especially a LIVE challenge, is the level of sharing that goes on among the participants.  People get out their blenders, look at their fruit baskets, make leafy green selections from their local stores and gardens, and they CREATE.

Whenever people send us recipes, we post them for all our Green Smoothie Queen members to enjoy in The Emerald Lounge (our online members forum).  Today I thought I’d post a couple recipes to get you through the weekend!  Many thanks to our program participants, Vanetta and Margot, who sent these in!

And if you’d like to become an Emerald Lounge Member and check out the recipe collection, you just need to sign up for one of our programs!  You can take a free program like our 3-day Green Smoothie Mini-course, or if you’re up for more fun, we have a LIVE green smoothie challenge called the Summer Slurping Sensation coming up on June 13th, 2010.

Happy Slurping this Weekend!

Saint Patty’s Day GREEN Smoothie!

For each Leprechaun you will need:

  • Handful o’ GREEN Clover from the yard.  (Of course, there’s a four-leaf clover in there! Don’t even bother to look! If you’re still under snow, a few clippings from a potted GREEN Shamrock plant for the Luck o’ the Irish!)
  • Handful o’ GREEN Grapes
  • 4 inches o’ GREEN Cucumber, peeled if it’s not organic; it may be waxed. (The Cucumber will taste like Watermelon!)
  • 1 GREEN (on the inside) Kiwi (The Kiwi will taste like Strawberries!)
  • 1 GREEN Granny Smith Apple
  • A WEE squeeze o’ GREEN Lime…very strong!
  • (LUCKY 7.) 2 Leaves o’ GREEN Kale (If you must sweeten, use GREEN Leaf Stevia.  A few grains go a long way!)

Grab your Pot o’ GREENS and your fiddle.  When you go out for your shenanigans, ask for an empty glass mug. Who needs green b_ _r ?  A brain is as strong as its latest drink!  (A chain is as strong as its weakest link!)  No brain fog…  No hangover…   No regrets!

Happy St. Paddy’s Day!

I’ll jig to your fiddle ANYDAY Mary!  THAT’s the kinda green spirit that this challenge is all about!  It’s going to be fun, healthy, and Sham-raw-kin!!

If you’ve been teetering, now’s the time to totter and join us!

Monday, June 22nd, 2009 by stacey

pineapples

I’ve recently been in the mood for green grapes and pineapple, so I thought I’d put together a summer drink to celebrate just how glorious it feels here in sunny Orlando, Florida.

Remember, you too can make your own version of a summer drink with fruits and vegetables you have on hand.

Cool Summer Drink Recipe green-grapes

  • Small handful parsley
  • One cup pineapple chunks
  • One cup green grapes
  • One banana
  • One cup coconut water

Blend and enjoy!

P.S. When you do make your own version of a great summer smoothie, stop by and let us know!

The Power of Red (red kale, red grapes and bing cherry green smoothie)

Monday, May 25th, 2009 by stacey

cherriesLately I’ve been craving more fruit in my diet, which is surprising since I usually have two green smoothies a day and in between that I have some fruit as a snack. I guess my body is asking for more of what it needs.

I have always loved red grapes and bing cherries, but one day while cutting up some cherries for my son, I decided to combine the two with red kale and I have to tell you, I really enjoyed the change from a sweet smoothie. The tart flavor of the smoothie really excited my taste buds. grapes

Both red grapes and bing cherries contain powerful, protective phytochemicals called flavonoids. Flavonoids found in fruits and vegetables are also called bioflavonoids, which act as antioxidants, to protect your healthy cells from free radical damage.

Power of Red Smoothie Recipe red_kale

  • One bunch red kale
  • One cup red grapes
  • One cup bing cherries (remove pit)
  • cup water (optional)

Blend and enjoy!

Antioxidant Green Smoothie (Dinosaur Kale, Blueberries, Red Grapes and Medjool Dates)

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009 by stacey

blueberriesThis smoothie is a powerhouse of antioxidants that are thought to help protect the body against the damaging effects of free radicals and the chronic diseases associated with the aging process. *

red_grapesAntioxidants are present in foods as vitamins, minerals, carotenoids, and polyphenols, among others. Many antioxidants are often identified in food by their distinctive colors—the deep red of cherries and of tomatoes; the orange of carrots; the yellow of corn, mangos, and saffron; and the blue-purple of blueberries, blackberries, and grapes.

The most well-known components of food with antioxidant activities are vitamins A, C, and E; beta carotene; the mineral selenium; and more recently, the compound lycopene.
