Beet Greens and Baby Spinach: Recipes from the 3-Day Green Smoothie Challenge

banangoberry blast green smoothieMy name is Tanya and I read about the Green Smoothie Queen for the first time on the Raw Diva’s website.

Now I have to say I was more sucessful with the 3 day challenge than with the first challenge I with the Raw Diva 7-day detox I did.  (heheh… Unfortunately I had a few slip ups my first time around, but it got things in motion!)  It has been an interesting process incorporating more raw foods and yummy green smoothies into my diet.

My boys (5 and 3) are very accepting and willing to try the smoothies (even the not so tasty ones).  Even my husband has also joined me on my journey, so I am very excited that this may work!   Since the Raw Diva challenge three weeks ago,  I have planted a garden for fresh produce and I’m making small changes daily.  I know myself and if I go totally whole banana, I (more…)

Green Smoothie Valentine - Day 4 - Affairs of the Heart

Thursday, February 11th, 2010 by stacey

I want something for you, for all of you.  And for me.  I want you to know how tired you were, how confused you were, how sick and tired you were of being sick and tired.  I want you to raise a glass of greens each day and take your health back into your own hands.  And then you’ll know the difference.  That’s what I dream of…

Well, I hope you revelled in your massage and shower yesterday.  Speaking of water, drink plenty of it to plump up your skin and keep your brain functioning optimally.  Dehydration causes tiredness and low mood.

And dream today.  Dream, dream, dream…  Spend some time thinking about your ideal life.  Grab a pen and notebook and jot down some ideas.  Cut out some pictures from magazines to inspire you.  As Lao Tzu, the godfather of Taoism, said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”  So what can you do to begin to make your dreams come true?  Take that first step now!  Don’t put it off any longer.

Day 4.

Put your heart into your dreams…

Affairs of the Heart Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • coconut water - to taste
  • 1 mango peeled and sliced from the pit
  • 2 - 3 handfuls of spinach

Directions:

Blend and enjoy blissfully.  Then take a step to follow the path of your heart.

Luscious Tropical Smoothie (Coconut, Spinach, Mango and Banana)

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 by Aran

Luscious Tropical Smoothie - makes up one litre (one quart)

  • 1 green coconut - flesh & water
  • 100 g baby English spinach leaves (3.5 oz)
  • 1 mango (just the flesh!)
  • 2 or 3 bananas

When making smoothies, I like putting in the greens and water (in this case coconut water) first, and blending this up until it’s smooth. Then everything else goes in and is blended again.

This is a fantastic smoothie for a special treat. Yum! I’m making one up tomorrow morning, and cannot wait. Can you see me salivating?

Now, for an encouraging story. :-)

Hubby and I visited his brother-in-law last week and stayed overnight. When I made up my green smoothie (banana & mango) my 12 year-old nephew expressed how gross it looked. Well, I convinced him to give it a try (after all, he’s a big, tough footy player!). He gingerly sipped the first bit, then promptly sculled the rest of his smoothie and helped himself to a glass of wonderful green smoothie from my jug! :-O  How great is that???? Just to show how fantastic this is, his family doesn’t eat many fruit & vegetables, and their fridge and freezer are chock full of meat and packet stuff - mostly for deep frying. I can’t tell you how good it felt to see him enjoying something so healthy.

Here’s to the power of green smoothies!

Blessings,

Veronica

Pineapple, Mango and Spinach Green Smoothie Recipe

Thursday, October 16th, 2008 by tera

pineapple for green smoothiesRegular readers may remember my Transiton to Better Health post where I mentioned that I fell in love with an icy cool concoction of frozen pineapple, mango and spinach. It seems that combination is still a winner, and may just help other tropical fruit lovers fall in love with green smoothies.

Tonight I needed a pitcher full of smoothie to go with our light supper, and I happened to have a pineapple on my counter (and mango in my freezer). When my dear husband tried his smoothie, his eyes lit up and he exclaimed, “yum!”

I smiled and offered him the rest of the pitcher knowing I could always make more later. And I realized I should make this tried and true recipe more often! Experimenting is fun, but getting back to basics is good too — yummy even.

My husband certainly drinks many of my smoothies, but since I started moving toward more and more greens, he sometimes drinks them more out of obligation than enjoyment. Tonight it was all about enjoyment.

Pineapple, Mango and Spinach Green Smoothie

  • Half of a pineapple, or about a cup of frozen pineapple chunks
  • A mango, or a cup of mango frozen mango chunks
  • one huge handful spinach, or to taste
  • one cup water, or enough to blend to desired consistency

Blend and enjoy!
